Wild Card Weekend

The holidays are finally over which means that it’s time for the NFL playoffs. I’m not going to lie, I’m kind of excited. We kick off Wild Card Weekend with two games on Saturday and two more on Sunday. Yippee!

New Year's Gambling.

What are your plans for New Year’s Eve? Maybe you will be throwing a big party with friends and family, or perhaps venturing out to revel in the moment with total strangers. Me? I won’t be doing much of anything. I’ll probably pick up a 12-pack of something European and Mrs. Bread and I will be watching some movies. The highlight will be ‘Surfer, Dude’, which arrived from my movie queue just today. Any film that gives Matthew Macaunaghey a green light to embrace his spacey stoner persona is A-OK with me.

Christmas Scrooge

The Holidays bring out the best in most people, but not me. I happen to be a modern day Scrooge. Everything about Christmas annoys me. From the commercialism and the demand to spend time with family that I would rather not see, to the absence of snow down here in Florida, it all irritates me terribly. Then last year, I found a way to appreciate Christmas more.

Steelers & Niners

There are two games on Sunday at 1:00 PM that have caught my eye. These games sit on complete opposite ends of the fan interest spectrum. Pittsburgh at Tennessee could be the game of the week as both teams fight for homefield advantage throughout the playoffs. San Francisco at St. Louis could be the least watched game in the history of the NFL. I like them both. It’s like meeting Jessica Alba and Sally Jessy Raphael at a bar on the same night, and wanting to take them both home equally. Sometimes you have to sacrifice yourself to find a winner.

The Chase

The chase used to be so much more fun. Whether being used as a verb or a noun, chasing has lost its allure.

TUF Finale

The last time that I wrote about the UFC, which just happened to be earlier this week, my picks went 4-0. I feel pretty strongly about keeping that streak alive for Saturday’s ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ live finale on Spike TV. By the way, if you missed Wednesday’s Fight for the Troops event, you escaped one of the most brutal nights of MMA ever. To recap quickly, Josh Koscheck knocked out Yoshida twice in a five second span, Razak Al-Hassan didn’t tap and his arm went the wrong way, Ben Saunders almost murdered a guy with non-stop knees to the head, and poor Corey Hill’s shin snapped in half. The fights were good, but the injuries were almost too much for even the most rabid fan to stomach. Then I remembered that I just went 4-0 and everything was OK in Bread’s world.

UFC for the Troops

Spike TV and the UFC are treating their fans to a free event on Wednesday, which is a good thing because these pay-per-views have been breaking Bread like a church communion. The card is hardly fantastic. Tonight and Saturday evening’s events are mere teasers leading into UFC 92 in a couple weeks, which is loaded from top to bottom. This is not to say that there aren’t any intriguing matchups here…there are. As always, the potential to win some money exists, and if you pay attention, you just might learn a thing or two.

NFL Wisdom

It had been joked recently by a friend that by having my wisdom teeth extracted, that I was perhaps extracting some of my remaining cerebral wisdom. Sure, it was funny at the time. Ha ha make fun of the guy with the bleeding mouth. I’m all about it. My teeth were pulled on Friday. Then on Saturday I played a bunch of college football and basketball games, compiling an embarrassing 31% record.

I’m in a little bit of disarray this week, so you’ll have to forgive me. I’m coming off of my first losing week in awhile, I ate at IHOP on Thanksgiving, and I’m getting my wisdom teeth pulled on Friday. The IHOP was actually good, the games were not, and this weekend will certainly be miserable when they rip the ivory from my mouth like a poached elephant. Woe is me.

NFL Futures Review

The NFL’s Week 13 has quickly descended upon us, and this is as good a time as any to evaluate my Divisional Winner Futures bets. I’m still alive in five of the eight divisions. The other three might go down as three of the most embarrassing predictions I’ve ever made. Even if I hit all five of the others, I should quit gambling right now for the symbol of ineptitude that the other three picks represent. But I won’t.

Basketball Is Back In My Life

I realize that some of you are still a little bit traumatized over that last ‘Dancing With The Stars’ thing. Don’t worry, I haven’t found a way to bet on ‘Desperate Housewives’ yet. No, today I am here to tell you about an old friend whom I have recently been reunited with. Basketball is finally back in my life.

With ‘American Idol’ creeping up, I figure I may as well give all of the tough guy strictly football bettors something to heckle me for right off the bat. So without further ado, I give you my ‘Dancing With The Stars’ finale betting picks! No discrimination here. I’d bet money on drag queen beauty pageants if someone laid odds on it!

What A Week!

What a week I just had. The sports gambling gods were very very good to Bread. I have actually been winning pretty well for a few weeks now, but last week seemed more enjoyable. Sometimes when one finds himself in a winning groove, a feeling of nirvana can take over. You feel like Neo when he finally figured out that he was The One at the end of ‘The Matrix’. Of course I’m not so foolish to think that the bottom will never fall out, but until that sad day, I’m enjoying my recent fortune.
